19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player claimed his initial trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging season, winning just one match at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title after the Rome competition and first on a hard court from March of that year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had prompted observers to wonder if his skill to compete at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an better serving game.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to force a decider.

The opponent defended four initial opportunities in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the win with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
